Plastering systems have come a long way in the past 70 years. These crystals interlock with one another and form a dense, hard surface. Within several hours,enough crystals have formed to cause the plaster to become solid. This chemical reaction causes the ingredients to begin a crystallization process. When mixed with water, a chemical reaction begins to occur. Plaster, like concrete, begins as a mixture of dry compounds. Plaster, in many respects, can be compared with concrete. Plaster surfaces, on the other hand, are much harder. It doesn't take much force to create a dent in drywall surfaces. However, the soft (relatively speaking) gypsum core of drywall is simply covered with a thick paper. Drywall is, by and large, a fantastic product. Your observation of drywall's tenderness is quite accurate. O.: Do I ever have good news for you! Not only is plaster still available, it is, in my opinion, a tremendous value.
